About the Author
Chike C. Nwoffiah is a Nigerian-American cultural leader, filmmaker, educator, and global advocate for authentic African storytelling and ethical leadership. He is the founding director of the Silicon Valley African Film Festival (SVAFF), now in its 17th year, a premier international platform presenting over 100 films annually from more than 30 African countries. Through SVAFF and his broader work, Nwoffiah has become a respected voice in advancing African narratives told in African voices.
He is the president of Rhesus Media Group and founding partner of The Film Fund Africa, a private investment initiative based in San Jose, California, that empowers African filmmakers to tell transformative stories while contributing to the continent's cultural and economic growth. His work sits at the intersection of culture, policy, leadership, and global development.
A former faculty member of the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Leaders Institute and appointee to the California Blueprint for Creative Schools Task Force, Nwoffiah has served on numerous national arts policy panels and advisory boards. He has lectured at UCLA, UC Santa Cruz, Sacramento State University, Suffolk University, and other institutions, and delivered keynote addresses at major national and international gatherings, including the Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders, Wartburg College's annual Michaelson, Briner & Kildahl Literary Symposium and the Invest in Africa Summit in The Hague.
An award-winning filmmaker and member of SAG-AFTRA, Nwoffiah has received numerous honors, including the City of San Jose's Cornerstone of the Arts Award, induction into the Silicon Valley Black Legends Hall of Fame, the African Diaspora Luminaire Award, and the President's Gold Volunteer Service Award from the President of the United States.
